Aurelio Vidmar started and ended his stellar career as an attacking midfielder with Adelaide City and its successor Adelaide United.
In 1985 he made his debut and was virtually ever present from the following season until he left for KV Kortrijk in Belgium.
He won his first cap for Australia in 1988 and played a big part in the 1993 and 1997 World Cup qualifying campaigns. In all he appeared in 53 matches for the Socceroos.
Overseas he moved to Waregem and then Standard Liege in Belgium where he had an outstanding season in 1994/95 as top goalscorer in the league and was recognised as Oceania Player of the Year.
He then had spells in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Spain and Japan with Sanfrecce Hiroshima before returning to Adelaide where he continued to play and score goals until the demise of the NSL, with Adelaide United.
He became assistant coach of the club in the A-League and then took over as senior coach in 2007. After a rocky start he led Adelaide United to the Asian Champions league final in 2008.
He has since been coach of Australian under-age and senior teams, as well as Bangkok Glass and Lion City in Thailand and Singapore respectively.
