In preparation for the upcoming FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup France 2019, Westfield W-League referees Kate Jacewicz and Casey Reibelt along with Hyundai A-League referee Chris Beath have recently attended a FIFA Referee Seminar in Doha, Qatar.
The seminar was conducted from the 3 to 9 February at Aspire Zone sporting complex.
The trio were involved in on-field practical exercises with players, where instant feedback was provided to the Match Officials by experienced instructors. There were also daily theoretical sessions, Laws of the Game tests and fitness checks.
One of the main activities at this Seminar was the introduction and training of Video Assistant Referees (VAR). Referees and VARs officiated in the Al Kass International Cup which is an annual invitational tournament for Under 17 Men鈥檚 teams.
Casey Reibelt had the opportunity to referee Casablanca versus Rangers FC where Kate Jacewicz controlled Altinordu FK and Spartak Moscow.
Chris Beath officiated in six matches as a VAR and reflected on the international experience.
鈥淚t鈥檚 an honour to be selected to attend this seminar and Al Kass International Cup as a Video Assistant Referee. It is an opportunity to work with and learn from some of the best Referees and Instructors in the World and I鈥檓 enjoying every minute,鈥 said Beath.
FFA Director of Referees Ben Wilson was pleased to see the three Australians working together at this seminar.
鈥淚t鈥檚 fantastic that both Kate and Casey have been appointed to the FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup,鈥 said Wilson.
鈥淐hris is an experienced VAR in Australia. His performances as a VAR at the recent AFC Asian Cup led to his invitation to this FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup Seminar and I would love to see all three referees involved at France 2019鈥 concluded Wilson.
The FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup is being held in France from the 7 June to the 7 July 2019.
