The CommBank Junior Matildas record their second victory from two games at the ASEAN U-16 Girls' Championship 2025 following a strong 3-0 victory over Singapore to stay atop of Group C, booking their spot in the final four of the tournament.
Coach Mike Cooper made eight changes to the side that defeated defending champions Thailand in their first group tie, with defender Arabella Ryan given the armband.
The same humid conditions that were observed on the previous match day awaited the two sides, with the late kick-off failing to stifle the intense Indonesian heat. Singapore may have been accustomed to the conditions. However, it would take little time for the CommBank Junior Matildas to take control of the match.
The opening goal would come just before the half-hour mark. Theo Mouithys Mickalad made the most of her starting berth, with a brilliant pivot and turn into the box, evading her marker before firing the ball into the far corner.
The second goal would come in a similar fashion, only eight minutes after half-time. This time Mouithys Mickalad was the creator rather than the scorer, threading a stellar ball to the edge of the box where Mikaela Gavranic collected, beat her defender and calmly slotted the ball into the far corner.
Mike Cooper was not afraid to make changes early to help manage the sweltering summer heat. Apsland was brought on at half-time for her first minutes of the tournament, while a triple change saw Leong, Corbett, and Taylor introduced on the hour mark.
The changes had their desired effect as the CommBank Junior Matildas continued their momentum late in the second half with Mouithys Mickalad managing to score a deserved second goal in the 82nd minute.
Laid on a plate for the forward, Zoe Panagopoulos initiated the attack, with a darting run along the left touchline, before playing a low-cross along the goalmouth towards an unmarked Mouithys Mickalad, who made no mistake.
The CommBank Junior Matildas have secured their spot in the semi-finals following the victory, and will await the results in other groups to learn their opponent.
