Football Federation Australia (FFA) has welcomed today鈥檚 announcement by the Northern Territory Government of a 鈥楻oadmap to the New Normal鈥 which sets out a timetable for the relaxation of COVID-19-related restrictions and paves the way for a resumption of community football over the next few weeks.
The Roadmap sees some restrictions lifted from tomorrow, with the NT Government having the option to move to stage two on 15 May 2020, when outdoor sports training could be permitted. A return to competitive football action could follow as early as 5 June.
FFA Chief Executive James Johnson said he was delighted with today鈥檚 announcement, and said 鈥淔ootball Federation Australia congratulates Chief Minister Michael Gunner and his Government for its work in developing the 鈥楻oadmap to the new Normal鈥 and laying out a clear pathway for the return of community sport.
鈥淭his is great news for the 9,200 football participants in the Territory, and as the largest participation sport in the NT, the physical and mental health benefits of a return to training and competition will be widespread.
鈥淔FA has been working closely with governments and senior health officials to ensure any resumption of football is in line with official regulations, and we look forward to continuing dialogue to move towards a return to football in all jurisdictions as soon as possible.鈥

Football NT Chief Executive Bruce Stalder said 鈥淭oday鈥檚 announcement by the NT Chief Minister is wonderful news for all Territorians and we look forward to getting our junior and senior players back on the park for games on 5 June.
鈥淲e acknowledge that everybody within the football community has a role to play to continue to stop the spread of COVID-19. In planning for a return, we must all strictly adhere to Government advice and implement special guidelines for our community to follow.
鈥淲e are proud of the way the football family has responded during this crisis and we are confident our clubs will take the necessary steps to help ensure a safe transition back onto the field.鈥
