Queensland clubs and participants will have the opportunity to join Football Queensland in celebrating 100 years of women鈥檚 football ahead of the upcoming centenary event.
Friday, 24 September will mark 100 years since the first public game of women鈥檚 football in Australia was held at the Gabba in 1921 between North Brisbane and South Brisbane.
鈥淔ootball Queensland is incredibly proud to celebrate this important milestone for the women鈥檚 game on the upcoming anniversary of the first public women鈥檚 match,鈥 FQ CEO Robert Cavallucci said.
鈥淎s we recognise the past, present and future of the women鈥檚 game in Australia, the celebration of 100 years of women鈥檚 football presents a wonderful opportunity for participants and clubs at all levels of the game to get involved in their own way.
鈥淲e鈥檙e encouraging clubs to acknowledge their Champions of Women鈥檚 Football, male or female, via their website and social media channels, and to consider programs that can be run to engage participants and welcome more women and girls to their club such as come and try days or exhibition matches.
鈥淔ootball Queensland will support clubs in the delivery of these events and programs by providing toolkits and graphic design assistance through the Club Support Hub.
鈥淎s part of the centenary celebrations, Football Queensland will also deliver free Girls Development Holiday Programs across the state in September which are designed to upskill women and girls over two days with a MiniRoos coaching course and Level 4 referee course.
鈥淲e look forward to seeing our Queensland clubs and participants join us in celebrating 100 years of women鈥檚 football as we prepare to host the FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup here in Australia in 2023.鈥
