Football Federation Australia congratulates SA Government on FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup Bid decision

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today congratulated the South Australian Government and Premier Steven Marshall MP for their decision to fully back the Bid to host the 2023 FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup.

FFA Chief Executive David Gallop AM said he was delighted that South Australia has got onside with the Bid, 鈥淭he announcement today is a tremendous boost to our hopes of hosting the tournament in 2023. We are thrilled that South Australia have committed to be part of the Bid, which will be stronger for their participation.

鈥淚t鈥檚 particularly pleasing to make this announcement on the day of the Westfield Matildas鈥 second match against Chile, which takes place tonight at Coopers Stadium.

鈥淭he team put in a strong performance to beat the same opponents 2-1 in Parramatta on Saturday, in front of a record crowd of 20,029.

鈥淚t shows just how popular the Matildas are, and I鈥檓 sure the South Australian public will be absolutely delighted that Premier Marshall shares our vision and will bring matches to Adelaide should we be successful in our bid,鈥 Gallop added.
