Sam Kerr achieves third-placed finish in women's Ballon d'Or

CommBank Matildas captain Sam Kerr finished third in the voting for the women’s Ballon d'Or for the second-straight year, after leading Chelsea to a domestic double of the Barclays Women’s Super League and Women's FA Cup.

Chelsea and Matildas striker Sam Kerr has achieved her equal-highest-ever finish in the women's Ballon d'Or, coming in third in this year's edition.

It comes after another history-making season for club and country for the striker, claiming back-to-back WSL Golden Boots with Chelsea and becoming the all-time leading goalscorer for Australia earlier in the year.

The striker has previously recorded finishes of 3rd (2021), 5th (2018) and 7th (2019) in the award which recognises the world's best female footballer.

Alexia Putellas, the Spanish midfielder, claimed the award for a second-straight season. While English forward Beth Mead came in second.

Kerr is one of just four players to have been nominated all four times since the women’s award was first presented back in 2018.
