Football Federation Australia (FFA) today thanked and congratulated the Victorian Government for its support of Australia鈥檚 bid to host the FIFA Women鈥檚 World CupTM in 2023.
The Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events, Mr Martin Pakula, made the announcement at AAMI Park in Melbourne, one of the proposed venues slated to host Women鈥檚 World Cup matches in the bid being submitted to FIFA next month.
鈥淢elbourne loves putting on a show and the FIFA Women鈥檚 World Cup鈩 is as big as it gets in women鈥檚 sport,鈥 Minister Pakula said.
鈥淢ajor events and sport are synonymous with Victoria 鈥 we are proud to be playing our role with Football Federation Australia in the bid to win the rights to host what will be an amazing month on the global calendar.鈥
FFA Chairman Mr Chris Nikou was delighted with the Government鈥檚 decision to get onside with the Women鈥檚 World Cup bid.
鈥淰ictoria is a world leader in delivering major sporting tournaments and it makes perfect sense that they are part of our bid to host the world鈥檚 largest women鈥檚 sporting event here in Australia,鈥 Mr Nikou said.
